ABOUT BEYOND TYPICAL

Welcome, I’m Emily. I am the face behind Beyond Typical.

I am Autistic. ADHD. and chronically ill. Mum of two.
That sentence took me a long time to be able to write — not because I’m not proud of it, but because for most of my life, nobody had given me those words yet.
I was diagnosed as an adult, which means I spent years thinking I was lazy, dramatic, too much, not enough, and fundamentally broken in ways I couldn’t quite explain. Turns out I wasn’t broken. I was just undiagnosed and absolutely exhausted.
Now I’m raising two kids, managing Fibromyalgia, ME, FND and trying to figure out what motherhood actually looks like when your brain and body don’t work the way the parenting books assume they will.
Spoiler: it looks messier than the books. And more honest. And sometimes, really, really funny if you squint.

This blog is for the parents who are parenting from the sofa on a bad body day. The ones who forgot the school thing again. The ones masking all day and then arriving home to little people who need everything from them. The ones grieving the parent they thought they’d be, while also being pretty damn proud of the one they actually are.
You’re not failing. You’re doing something genuinely hard, with a body and brain that make it harder, and nobody is talking about it enough.
So let’s talk about it.

This isn’t a wellness blog. You won’t find morning routines that start at 5 a.m. or advice just to try yoga. What you will find is honesty, a few hard-won practical things that actually help, and the kind of company that makes you feel less alone at 2am when you can’t sleep and you’re convinced you’re the only one.
You’re not the only one. You never were.
Welcome. You found your people.
